Over the years, the USA Central Territory has developed graded brass arrangements to support a wide range of performance settings—from staff band participation in Saturday Music School events to inclusive finale selections for music camps and recitals. These resources are intentionally designed to feature beginner brass players as soloists, allowing developing musicians to participate meaningfully alongside more advanced ensembles.
Beginner Brass Features
Most selections in the Young Performers series highlight beginner soloists through familiar melodies typically encountered early in method book study. Tunes such as Hot Cross Buns (Muffins Rhapsody), Good King Wenceslas (Christmas Debut), Joyful, Joyful (Classics in Brass), and God Is So Good use a limited pitch range and simple rhythmic patterns. When set in accessible keys, these melodies—many of which are sacred—are ideal for early learners. Each piece includes supportive band accompaniments, scored in Unity/AIES format, to enhance the soloist’s first performance experiences.
Graded Brass Features
To encourage musical growth and progression, several Young Performers arrangements include parts written at multiple grade levels. In these settings, an A Band supports a B Band with its own simplified parts, while a C Band performs the primary melody. This flexible scoring allows ensembles of varying abilities to collaborate in a unified finale for music camps, schools, or corps recitals. Many selections are also designed for seasonal use, including Santa Meets Sousa Forever (Christmas), Alleluias Raise (Easter), and American Celebration (Independence Day).
Downloadable Demonstration and Accompaniment Tracks
In response to the need for virtual performance resources during the pandemic, demonstration and accompaniment tracks were created to support individual practice and recorded ensemble projects. These tracks continue to serve as valuable tools for both virtual and live performances and are often available in multiple tempos. All Young Performers scores, beginner and band accompaniment parts (in multiple transpositions), along with demonstration and accompaniment tracks, are available for download.
