These free chorales, arranged by Philip Hannevik, are a practical and musically rich collection of 25 short works designed to support brass band training and ensemble development. Each chorale is written in four parts, with every part provided in both Eb and Bb, and Part 4 also available in bass clef. This flexible scoring allows directors to adapt instrumentation easily and rotate melodic and harmonic roles throughout the band.
Most of the chorales are under 20 measures in length, making them especially effective for use in rehearsals as tuning exercises, warm-ups, and focused listening studies. Because all parts are available in both Bb and Eb, the melody and inner voices are not confined to a single section, encouraging balanced participation, improved ensemble awareness, and deeper musical engagement across the band. Optional bells and timpani parts further enhance the resource by involving percussion in a meaningful and musical way.
These chorales are well suited for a wide range of ensembles—from developing or smaller brass bands to highly advanced groups. Emerging ensembles will value the accessibility and clarity of the writing, while experienced bands will find lasting benefit in using the chorales to refine tone, balance, blend, intonation, and musical sensitivity. This collection offers a versatile and enduring rehearsal resource for brass bands at every stage of growth.
